i’m going to throw my phone into the pond. i’ve been on the road for 18 weeks now, with a couple days in between trips to crash at home, and i’m feeling a bit worn down. self assigned deadline for volume 13 is 11:59 pm on august 31st and i ain’t anywhere close to being able to make it. i have over 400 pages of conversations and drawings accumulated from this month of travel, and i’m only beginning to settle in to reflect on all this raw material … on august 31st. it’s all a little overwhelming, so i think a little bit of slowness, and stillness will also help my brain sort out what should be shared, and what should remain unseen.
a group of my friends constantly remind me that it’s important to have a fallow season: a period of time marked by inactivity. in the farming world, it’s a season of growth where no crops are planted in the field, the soil rests, and nutrients are restored. in turn, following seasons of harvest become more bountiful, simply because of intentional inaction. we can’t just keep going and going within this capitalist system without rest: that’s how we burn out. if we want our efforts to be sustainable, we have to build in time and space within our lives to be replenished, otherwise our bodies are gonna break down and force us to slow down. volume 13 eta: sometime in the fall. until then, if you need to find me, leave a voicemail (i’ve stopped reading texts) and i’ll give you a call when i find my phone.
